In Switzerland, the “Kulm” is a well-known name of a luxury Hotel nestled deep in the Schanfigg valley in Arosa.

Holidaymakers travel from far to experience this most beautiful hotel but also many Swiss families, couples, business people and friends return to The Hotel Arosa Kulm & Alpine Spa year after year.

The hotel slogan is “Welcome Home!” and indeed a home it was also for us during our stay in February 2022.

The Location
Being situated at the end of a ski piste it gives the perfect ski-in & ski-out access, especially for families. Not having to carry the skis a long way means no moaning and no stress. Simply a happy family!

Furthermore,  ALL ROOMS have an uninterrupted view over the snowy mountains and forest.

Arosa is such an amazing place and needs to be discovered all year round. Check out Arosa in Summer as well.

The Arosa Kulm Alpine Spa

The Arosa Kulm Alpine Spa offers relaxation and the most breathtaking uninterrupted view of the neighbouring snowy mountains, thanks to the oversized glass windows.

An area of 1,200 square meters of wellness and relaxation awaits.

The heated indoor pool (29 degrees) and the even warmer jacuzzi make this place a real relaxing oasis.

Until 4pm! Because this is the time when this place becomes fun, loud and full of happy kids. It is splash time!

I LOVE this concept. From 4-5 pm the kids can jump in the pool and be themselves. No stress to ask them to be quiet, the pool is theirs! Thank you for this!

At the lower area, you will find various saunas, massage treatment area and gym.

5 first-class restaurants (13, 14 and 15 Gault Millau points).

The Arosa Kulm Hotel is known as a gourmet destination not only for hotel guests but also for locals and holidaymakers that are not staying at the hotel.

Because of its 5 different restaurants (three within the hotel), we were spoilt for choice.

What we loved as a family was that the children’s menu was available in every restaurant within the hotel.

Arosa Kulm -Ahaan Thai

As we devoured the most amazing Thai food and travelled mentally back to Thailand, the kids were happy eating their cheese Späzli! Win-win!

The Ahaan Thai has its own little story to tell. The reason why today’s Chef Tussanee and her team have been flown in from Bangkok is not a coincidence.

In the 1930s the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej visited Arosa himself and learned to ski whilst staying at the Arosa Kulm Hotel. The authentic Thailand flair never left the Kulm again.

Make sure you have a reservation well in advance because this place is booked every night.

The Taverne
At the cosy and family-friendly Taverne the wood-burning pizza oven emanates the most amazing aroma.

The great thing at this place is the bowling alley and the kids club is right there.

The Mutanella
The Muntanella serves classic dishes with a gastronomical twist.

Piz Kulm & Stüva Cuolm
Only a stone’s throw away from the Arosa Kulm Hotel you have the option of two more dining experiences. The Piz Kulm is the “Käsestübli” where the cheese for your Swiss fondue is carefully chosen from only the best producers. Because only the best is good enough for every Kulm client.

Whereas the real “bella vita” is alive at the Stüva Cuolm. Just like mama’s Italian hospitality straight from a Tuscan kitchen.

Breakfast at the 1882
And breakfast, my favourite meal of the day, was served in the 1882 restaurant.

I cannot think of anything that was missing. The choice is huge from smoked salmon to incredible local cheeses and the meat section.

At the live station, you could order a skier’s breakfast that lasts nearly the whole day. Breakfast is served until 11 am so there is no stress to get up early.

Hotel Arosa Kulm History

The Hotel Arosa Kulm’s history dates way back to before 1882. It all began when the Arosa confectioner, Hans Hold, bought the house which was neighboring his farmhouse.

Arosa Kulm Hotel originated when the family Hold connected the two houses and transformed them into a 30-room hotel named the Kurhaus.

It changed hands in 1894 and the hotel was taken over by the chef, Mr. Scherrer who renamed the hotel “Kulm”.

The name has remained until today however the owners have changed again a few times.

Today the hotel stands proudly at the top of Arosa in the area of Innenarosa.

There are 119 rooms, a stunning Alpin Spa, and the gourmet experience which makes every stay at the Arosa Kulm Hotel unique.

In the reception we saw the future project of extending the Hotel Arosa Kulm but this will take a few years to complete.

Our family suite – top floor

We had a large suite perfectly adequate for the four of us. The lounge area was transformed into the children’s bedroom with a large and comfortable sofa bed. Two sliding doors brought us to the adult room with a large en-suite bathroom with a shower and bath.

Furthermore, we had plenty of space for all our ski gear and other things in the walk-in wardrobe where we found plenty of hangers! Well done for supplying not just 4 hangers!

Definitely, the cherry on the cake was the large balcony with the most amazing view and even from our bed we could see the snow-covered mountains.

The two immensely large TVs (one in each bedroom /area) remained untouched but they are there if this is something you like.

There is a small minibar included with some soft drinks and beer, together with a nice coffee station, bottled water and the daily fresh fruits.

Facilities at the Arosa Kulm Hotel

Playroom
Close to the hotel’s three restaurants you will also find a large playroom with ping-pong, table football, some games machines and a pool table. All perfect for the kids to spend some time whilst you finish your dinner.

Bar & Lounge areas
When you enter the Kulm through their large revolving doors you step into the cosy lounge where a large crackling fire is warming up the area and the pianist entertains (late afternoon).

Ski Room
Apart from the above-mentioned facilities the hotel also has a large ski/sledge storage room with heated boot warmers. Very conveniently located.

Conclusion on our stay at the Hotel Arosa Kulm & Alpine Spa

There is no doubt that we truly enjoyed our luxury stay in Arosa at the Hotel Arosa Kulm & Alpine Spa.

It was exactly what we needed to unwind.

The food, hotel staff and service were all exceptional. The hotel staff was incredibly professional yet so warm, kind and friendly.  Despite being in a luxury hotel the whole experience felt pretty down to earth.

At no point did we feel too restricted, and whenever the kids wanted to go and play in the play area they could and were welcomed.

We enjoyed the pool area very much. As check-out is not until 12pm, we opted for the last swim and had the pool all to ourselves before enjoying a late final breakfast.

Things we would have loved
As the hotel is a victim of their own incredible success and it is pretty much necessary to make a restaurant reservation when you book your room, which I am not a big fan of.

Personally, I would have LOVED to eat two times at the Thai restaurant but it was fully booked on one night and closed on the other.

Although the hotel had an afternoon cake buffet on display, it was payable even for hotel guests. It would have been nice if hotel guests had a delicious piece of homemade cake with coffee or tea included. Especially coming straight from the Arosa Lenzerheide ski domain.

Yes, these are only very small things that we missed, so you can see not much really!
