How to get to the start of the Geissä Wäg – Sattel-Hochstuckli?

Make your way to Sattel in the Swiss Canton Schwyz. As the area is close to Lucerne and Zürich this is quite a popular hiking destination in Switzerland. Mostelberg, which is the Sattel cable car station summit, lies only at 1200m above sea level, which makes this suitable for everyone.

Also keep this place in mind if you need to escape the autumn fog. Most of the time during these grey days, the sun is shining at Mostelberg.

Right by the cable car station of Sattel-Hochstuckli there is a large payable parking lot. Chf 6.- for 6 hours.

If you choose to arrive by the Swiss public transport system, then check your connections with the SBB. timetable.

The bus stops right at the Sattel-Hochstuckli gondola station.

From there, hop in one of the world’s first revolving gondolas and ride up to 1200m.

NOTE: Don’t forget to pick up the hiking map and leaflet at the ticket counter. You need it to partake in the questions and the quiz along the theme trail. Make sure to have a pen with you as well.

Mostelberg to Blüemlisberg and goat farm, 2.6 km with 48 metres altitude change.

From here you can go back the same way or carry on and complete the Engelstock loop which is 5.4 km in total.

Hiking options Engelstock loop

If you decide to do the whole loop Mostelberg – Engelstock Panorama loop, you would just carry on in the direction Mostelegg und Berggasthaus Herrenboden.

After about 2km of trail you will come to a junction.

If you have a push chair with you take the left path back to Mostelberg ( blue and green hiking map above) because this path will not lead via the suspension bridge Skywalk. They do not allow to pass over the bridge with a push chair .

If you still want to cross the bridge, once back at Mostelberg, leave the pushchair at the start of the bridge and walk it from there.

Otherwise, you can follow the pass to the right (yellow path ) which brings you to the suspension bridge. Cross over the 374 metre long Skywalk suspension bridge.

5.4 km for the full loop with a 162m altitude change.

Facilities on the hike at Mostelberg & Engelstock

There are several BBQ grill stations where wood is provided along the whole Engelstock loop including the Geissä Wäg.

Alternatively, you will pass a lot of restaurants if this is more your cup of tea. Depending on the season you are hiking the area, and if your plan is to have lunch at one of the restaurants, make sure you check their opening hours.

The restaurants would also be your toilet options.

Rondo Playland at Sattel-Hochstuckli

So now that you know all about goats, and have finished your hike at Sattel-Hochstuckli, it is time to let them play at the Rondo Playland at Mostelberg Sattel-Hochstuckli cable car station.

The big play area at Mostelberg offers trampolines, bouncy castles and summer toboggan, tubing and not to forget the Skywalk suspension bridge.

For prices and options check out the local website.

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing tickets is whether the kids will be spending a lot of time at the play area or just a quick half an hour.

I am saying this because you can buy a day ticket with unlimited access to the Rondo Play area including the gondola ticket.

Alternatively, you can pay as you go at the top.

Mountain Scooters at Mostelberg (Trottinet)

Another great way to get back down to Sattel from Mostelberg is by the mountain scooters.

You start by crossing the Sky-Walk suspension bridge, a little uphill before reaching the downhill road all the way to Sattel.

The nearly 10 km long road offers beautiful views over the area of Canton Schwyz.

Children must be 10 years of age, double scooter riding is not allowed.

In 2022 the rental cost was Chf 19.- for the scooter rental included in this price are helmets.

The scooters can be rented at the mountain station at Mostelberg as of 13h onwards.

Where to stay at Sattel

As there is so much to do in this area, we recommend to stay in Sattel for at least one night.

The perfect place is up at Mostelberg, Sattel-Hochstuckli and our top tip would be to stay at the Berggasthause Mostelberg. A simple yet perfect accommodation with beautiful views.

The best thing about this places is that once the Sattel-Mostelberg gondola stops at 17h00 and all the day tourists have disappeared, the place is yours (and the other hotel guests)!

Tranquility returns around the hotel and the views over central Switzerland during sunset are beautiful. Although all the bouncy castles at the Rondo Land and down to the ground and the Skywalk suspension bridge is closed, the kids are allowed to use the large trampolines. Definitely a plus point for them.
