When you visit the Meiringen-Haslital Region in the Berner Oberland make sure you plan a fun family day at the Hasliberg with the Alpen Tower Ticket.

Enjoy three activities, including the amazing Marble Run Trail (Kugelweg) at Hasliberg. With just the one mountain cable car ticket your day is a guaranteed success for everyone.

Where is Hasliberg and how to get there?

The Hasliberg region reaches from 600m to 2500m altitude and belongs to the tourist destination Meiringen – Haslital in the Bernese Oberland. This family destination is also part of the Jungfrau Region which includes Grindelwald, Müren and of course the mighty Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe.

Often Hasliberg is overlooked by those visiting these famous and busy tourist destinations, which is great for us when we visit 🙂 but if you don’t go you are missing out.

Arriving by Train to Meiringen

With the train you will ride to Interlaken and onwards to Brienz, passing by the beautiful turquoise Lake Brienz. After Brienz you will head directly to Meiringen. SBB website.

You could also combine the train with the boat. Exit the train at Thun and hop on one of the Cruises that brings you all the way to Brienz. Then from Brienz take the train to Meiringen

Self drive to The Hasliberg

Depending on where you will arrive from, you may also pass by Interlaken along Lake Thun followed by Lake Brienz before reaching Meiringen-Haslital.

From Valais it would make sense to drive the scenic route over the Grimselpass or via the Kandersteg Tunnel in Goppenstein. Whenever possible we prefer to drive over the Grimselpass and squeeze in a hike to the Oberaarlake & Glacier or just spend some extra time at the pass and around the lake.

Getting the Alpen Tower Ticket

Your fun day at the Hasliberg starts by purchasing the Alpen Tower Ticket direct at Haslital-Bergbahnen in Meiringen. There is parking available next to the cable car base station, or enjoy a 10min walk through the pretty village of Meiringen from the train station or bus stop to the cable car station.

Alternatively, if you are driving to Meiringen you can also drive up to Reuti and purchase your ticket there. But be aware that parking is very limited at the upper cable car station. Therefore, our suggestion would be to park in Meiringen.

This also gives you the opportunity to visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum, buy some of the world-famous Meringues from the Frutt Bakery or simply walk around this charming village. Check out our full Guide to Meiringen – Haslital

If you are in possession of a half-tax SBB ticket bring it along as you qualify for a 50% discount. And children with a junior SBB card travel free of charge.

The best and easiest option is to get a return ticket, even though you will be on the downhill scooters (trottinettes) from Mäglisalp to Bidmi for one stretch. If you are not sure which section ticket to take ask the staff and they will be happy to help you.

Don’t forget to buy the marble for the marble trail (Kugelweg). At the cable car station, Bidmi restaurant, Hotel Reuti or the Maglisalp shop you will be able to buy the wooden marble for the trail for Chf 3.-. The kids will not be impressed if you forget the marbles 🙂

Explore Hasliberg

Now, as you have bought your Alpen Tower Ticket the fun can start.

From Meiringen, you will ride the village gondola to Reuti from where the bubble gondola awaits. Look out for deer and you will already spot some of the marble trail stations along the ride.
You are now at Mäglisalp. By the way, the whole Hasliberg turns into a magical winter wonderland during the winter season. Find out more here. – Family Winter weekend in Meiringen- Hasliberg.

The last stretch will bring you up to the Alpen Tower from where stunning views will leave you in awe. On the ride up see how many Marmottes you can spot. The kids counted over 10….

A suggestion would be to enjoy breakfast at the Alpen Tower Restaurant before starting your fun family day at Hasliberg.

Good to know: At each of these stations you will find restaurants, shops and play areas, the beauty of the “Ferien Region Meiringen – Haslital” is that it is super family-friendly.

At the Alpen Tower

Apart from enjoying the absolutely stunning 360° views and walking the short distance to the viewpoint, you could, as said before, enjoy the breakfast up there.
Oh, and by the way, the lake you see in the distance is Lake Brienz, well worth stopping and visiting as well. You may have heard of the beautiful Giessbachfälle – Giessbach Waterfalls which we highly recommend.

Downhill Scooters from Mäglisalp to Bidmi (Trottinettes)

After returning by the bubble lift from the Alpen Tower to Mäglisalp you have to purchase the rental tickets for the trottinettes at the kiosk and souvenir shop. The rent is Chf 10.- per adult.

NOTE: Kids up to the age of 8 have to ride with their parents! This is so cool as many stations do not allow double riding.

Once you have collected the trottinettes and strapped your helmets on the fun can start.

It is an easy 3km trail offering beautiful views of the Bernese Oberland mountain peaks including the Wetterhorn and the Mönch, both in the Grindelwald Region.

Marble Trail Hasliberg – Bidmi to Reuti

You can drop off your downhill scooters at the Bidmi station and get your marbles out. The 1st station is right at the restaurant, which makes it ideal to stop for lunch. Whilst the kids are waiting for their lunch they can already let their marbles roll.

The whole trail includes 11 stations, some are straight forward and others are absolutely awesome. Creative Engineering!!

Below are some of the stations.

So much fun at these Marble Stations, and check out the View!

and another great station to let your ball roll.

Good to know: The path is not pushchair friendly, and be careful as at some marble stations the marble can easily fall out and disappear in the surrounding bushes and woodlands. Always make sure you have an eye on them.

The trail is 3.4km long finishing at Reuti station. If you are planning on having a picnic there is a great fire pit between station four and five. This station count includes the 1st Marble run at the restaurant.

  1. We recently visited the area and stayed at the hotel das Sherlock Holmes which is right at the entrance of cable car station to go up the halsital ski slopes. Hotel was very nice, great restaurant and bar and good rooms with balconies. Highly recommend it for travelers in the region. They also offer good steam and sauna services.
