Step-by-Step Guide: How to get from Prague International Airport to Prague City

It might be daunting, scary or you think it is too much hassle to take the public transport from Prague airport into the city centre. But believe me it is anything but. Super, quick and easy even with luggage.

Get Out of the Airport

Arriving from the Schengen area, your destination is Terminal 2 in Prague. All international flights touch down at Terminal 1. If you find yourself in a different area, a short stroll will lead you to Terminal 2.

Once outside the airport building at Terminal 2, you’ll be faced with two options to venture into the heart of Prague:

Opt for a taxi/summon an Uber. The cost typically ranges between 15 to 20 Euros, and the travel time may extend up to 60 minutes, depending on the traffic.

However, let’s embark on an adventure using Prague’s Public Transport system, known for its speed, affordability, and reliability.

Ticket to Prague City

Just outside Terminal 2, you’ll spot yellow ticket machines that conveniently accept credit cards – a breeze for travelers.
While the official currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown, don’t fret about acquiring it here. The ticket you’re after is a 90-minute pass, priced at about 1.50 Euros or 32 CZK.

No need to fuss over Czech Crowns, and certainly don’t bother with changing money at the airport or hitting the ATM. Simplify the process by using your credit card for a seamless experience.

How it works

·       Select your language
·       Tap 90 minutes ticket 32CZK
·       Tap, pay with card

Take your ticket and wait for the bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín.

IMPORTANT: You have to validate the ticket. And you can do this inside the bus.
Do not forget this. If they inspect your ticket and it is NOT validated you will pay a fine of up to 50 Euros.

The Magic of Public Transport

Hop onto bus 119 to Nádraží Veleslavín, conveniently waiting outside the terminal, and let it whisk you away to the metro station, (metro line A).

This bus is the best choice if your destination is in the historical centre of Prague (the Old Town, Lesser Town, New Town, Prague Castle area) or anywhere along with line A.

The journey will take 15 minutes and it will exit at the last stop . Most probably everyone else that is still on the bus will head down to the metro.

You do not need to validate the ticket again; remember you have done this in the bus.
Also, good to know your ticket is also valid for the trams in Prague city centre, should you need them to reach your hotel for example.

Take the Right Metro

To reach the city centre of Prague, take the metro on your right-hand side (green line A) as you come down the stairs, which is probably already waiting for you.

Take a seat, as you will be traveling on the metro for 6 stops. Your exit will be Můstek to reach Prague City centre.

Prague City Centre – Václavské

You are most probably heading to Václavské, the city centre of Prague. It is also here where the famous Christmas market will be held.

To exit the metro station at the right area, look for the appropriate signs. They are indicated straight ahead when you step out of the metro. (See the photo below)

Follow towards Václavské

Head right and take the very long escalator to the upper level of the metro station, followed by another smaller escalator that will take you out of the metro station and back into fresh air.

This journey has only taken you 30 minutes.

And now, go and explore Prague City Centre and its surroundings. You will be walking and climbing a lot of stairs if you are wish to explore Prague from every level.

Prague Airport to City Centre by Taxi, Bolt, or Uber

Different companies offer private taxis from the airport into Prague City centre.

There is an app called BOLT; you can download it to your phone, select where you would like to go, and choose the desired car. A normal car costs about 260 CZK (10 Euros).

Uber is slightly more expensive than Bolt. If this is your preferred transport option from the airport to Prague City, make sure the company you are using is legitimate.

And the priciest option is the official airport taxis that are waiting right outside the terminals. Expect to pay up to 30% more than a Bolt transfer.

The only reason why I would suggest taking a taxi is if you arrive late or if you cannot carry your luggage alone. Another reason to pack light when visiting such a beautiful city like Prague.
During rush hours a taxi can take 2-3 times longer to reach Prague City Centre compared to traveling on public transport.

Conclusion: Your Prague Adventure Awaits!

There you have it – a budget-friendly transfer from Prague Airport to the city centre. Now, armed with your insider’s guide, dive into the enchanting streets of Prague, where every cobblestone tells a story.
