Nestled up at the Mostelberg in the beautiful Canton Schwyz in Central Switzerland is an amazing family getaway with lots of attractions.
Sattel-Hochstuckli offers many family-friendly hiking trails for all ages, and the Rondo Playland with bouncy castles, large trampolines, tube slide and our favourite, a summer toboggan run.
Whether you visit Sattel-Hochstuckli during the winter months or during the hiking season, it is easily accessible from pretty much all over Switzerland and will provide a day in the heart of Switzerland to remember.
And by the way, Sattel-Hochstuckli is featured on Kinderregion.ch a platform for family friendly activities which can be found in the German speaking part of Switzerland.

Where is Sattel-Hochstuckli and how to get there?
In the heart of Central Switzerland in the canton Schwyz lays the pretty little town of Sattel. It is from here where the world’s first revolving gondola lift departs and brings guests up to 1200 metres above sea level.
Arriving by car
Sattel is very easily reachable by car and with its close proximity to Zürich and Lucerne it is a very popular mountain for day trips.
Add 6417 Sattel in to your GPS and follow the Hochstuckli Revolving Gondola signs.
There is a large payable car park adjacent to the Sattel-Hochstuckli Gondola station.
You only pay Chf 6.- for 5 hours and 8.- for a 24h ticket.
Arrival by public transport
The bus will stop right at the Sattel-Hochstuckli gondola station.
Use the SBB App or check here online for connections with the SBB.ch website.
The last gondola from Mostelberg down to Sattel is at 5pm, make sure you keep this in mind.
The Rondo Playland at Sattel-Hochstuckli
Different kinds of colourful bouncy castles, multiple large trampolines, a tube run and a summer toboggan installation.
All of these await when you exit the revolving Stuckli gondola at the top.
Whether you will be able to take the kids hiking, is another matter. I guess you need to be pretty good in convincing them that a beautiful panorama walk along the “Geissä Wäg” (goat trail) is a lot of fun as well!
Tip: The Rondo Playarea opens only as of 10h30 in the morning. and depending on the weather. The gondola however opens at 8:30 h.
Therefore, if hiking is on your itinerary, be up at Mostelberg before the playland opening hours.
This way the kids have no excuse to refuse a hike. And honestly the beautiful Geissä Wäg and Engelstock panorama trail is well worth doing. You will be back early enough for the kids to have plenty of time to jump and slide around the Alpine Rondo Playland at Mostelberg.
Price for the Rondo Playland
There are different offers available. It all depends on whether the kids will spend hours at the Rondo Playland or just do a few runs and that’s it.
The revolving gondola ticket includes admission to the Skywalk suspension bridge.
Gondola only
In 2022 an adult return ticket is Chf 26.- (half tax fare and Tell pass accepted)
Children age 6-16 Chf 13.-
Day Pass Revolving Gondola & Rondos Playland
An adults Day pass Chf 45.-
Children 6 untill 16 years Chf 35.-
For the bouncy castle area, children from 2 years of age require an entrance fee (CHF 8)
You find all different prices on the Sattle-Hochstuckli website
Hiking at Sattel-Hochstuckli
There are many hiking trails starting from the summit station at Sattel-Hochstuckli. You will find short and easy walks, educational trails and even longer more strenuous hiking trails starting from Mostelberg.
On the local hiking map below, you will see some outlined. You can easily combine, shorten or change as you like whilst on the trail.
One of the best and family adapted trails is the NEW theme path the “Geissä Wäg” – goat trail.
Hiking the “Geissä Wäg” at Sattel-Hochstuckli (goat trail)
The hike is not too long and it is a great idea to hike before you enter the Rondo Playland at Mostelberg.
The theme trail brings you to the Blüemlisberg Goat farm whilst passing seven fun and educational posts all about, you guessed it, the goat.
Half way is a restaurant should you need the facilities before reaching the farm at the other end.
For more information also read Hiking the Sattel Geissä Wäg & Engelstock Panorama trail
There you will find alternatives on how to make this hike at Sattel-Hochstuckli longer via the Engelstock loop, should you wish to.
If you have younger kids and need to bring a push chair or buggy please do so, as this hike is push chair friendly.
The Skyline Suspension Bridge
Located right next to the summer toboggan run at the top of the Mostelberg station one can cross this 374 metre long suspension bridge, the Skywalk. The bridge is listed as one of Europe’s longest pedestrian suspension bridges, and is suspended 58 metres above the Lauitobel Gorge.
From the centre of the bridge you experience nice views in all directions. The bridge wobbles quite a bit.
It is also the start for some of the circular hikes should you wish to explore the area a bit more.
NOTE: the bridge closes its gate at 17H00, you will hear an announcement through the speakers asking you to leave the bridge 5-minutes before closing.
A sign indicates no cycling or push chairs allowed on the bridge.
Mountain Trottinette (scooter) downhill trail
For the older members of your family a long mountain Trottinette downhill trail awaits on these fun two wheelers. An adventurous, nearly 10km downhill track finishes at the car park.
Children must be 10 years old and double occupancy on the scooters is not allowed.
You find the rental place at the top station at Mostelberg and the opening hours are as of 13h. In 2022 the rental price including a helmet was Chf 19.-. The indicated time of the trail says 1.5 hours, but this is only an indication.
If you are a larger group it might be worth making a reservation directly with Sattel-Hochstuckli cable car company.
Stay the night at Mostelberg Berggasthaus
This is our top tip, stay the night at the Mostelberg Hotel!
The whole mountain station is buzzing especially the Rondo Playland but the peace and tranquility returns as of five o clock when the last Rondo gondola descents down to Sattel.
Now is the time to relax, and enjoy the beautiful views all around. The bouncy castles are down to the floor, no sledge is rattling down the metal tubes. It is just quiet.
The Berggasthaus Mostelberg is simple but check out the photo below, what more do you need?!.
We had two rooms next to each other one with a private bathroom and shower. A beautiful view down over lake Ägerie to one side and over to the Frohnalpstock on the other side.
Note that the restaurant closes at 17h as well. For their overnight guests a table for dinner was prepared and a cold cheese and meat platter with salad, bread, yoghurt and fruits was made ready by the kitchen.
We received a brief explanation of where we can find the drinks, where to lock the door and turn the lights off before the staff left the mountain as well.
We were alone! The whole restaurant was ours and so was the mountain. Apart from the farmer next door who let the cows out at sunset, there was not a single person around.
Heaven!
The trust the restaurant staff puts in their guest is remarkably brave. We appreciated it very much and can only highly recommend a stay here.
One bonus point, the hotel guests are allowed to use the trampolines of the Rondo Playland as long as they want!
This was the best part of our kids. The whole trampoline area (7 in total) only for them….
Winter at Sattel-Hochstuckli
We saw that this is also a family winter destination.
Beautiful winter walks around the Engelstock await and if there are good snow conditions a 3.5km long sledge run from Mostelberg – Sattel provides some great fun.
The family friendly Sattel-Hochstuckli ski area covers 14 km of slopes and 3 ski lifts. Beginners will find an area to learn their first turns.
Our thoughts on the Family Mountain Sattel-Hochstuckli
This is definitely a family mountain where everyone including the grand parents will have an amazing day.
All the activities offered guarantee a great day out in Switzerland. It is not the most quiet place, but that is not the point here.
We loved that the children can go independently on all the activities but we were still close enough to keep an eye on them and ensure their safety.
