Planning a trip to Switzerland with your family? Wondering where to stay in Switzerland with kids—or even looking for a hotel with a kids’ club or childcare options?

Choosing the right place to stay can truly shape your holiday. We’ve had the chance to stay at some of the most unique, family-friendly hotels across Switzerland, and now I’m sharing our favorite ones with you. These are the places where kids are just as valued as their parents, and where family time is easy, fun, and memorable.

Each of these family hotels in Switzerland is designed with both children and adults in mind. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, older kids, or even grandparents, these hotels offer something for everyone—and lots of fun is guaranteed.

From jungle treehouse experiences and uni-hockey tournaments to llama trekking and art workshops, these hotels go far beyond the basics. And yes, they all have swimming pools—because what’s a family holiday without some serious splashing?

In this guide, I’ve listed the best 9 Swiss family hotels we’ve stayed in. Every one of them offers standout family features, like child-friendly dining, supervised activities, and spacious rooms perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

No matter where you’re headed in Switzerland, picking one (or more) of these Swiss family hotels is a great way to make sure your family trip is as fun and stress-free as possible.

Bonus: On our Swiss Family Hotels map you also find the route we drove . This may help for a quick Swiss family itinerary.

Family Hotels in Switzerland by “Swiss Family Hotels” What Are They?

Swiss Family Hotels is a label that brings together some of the best family-friendly hotels and resorts in Switzerland. It’s a collection of carefully selected accommodation that cater to the needs of families with kids—and meet a set of criteria to be part of the official Swiss Family Hotels portfolio.

To qualify, hotels must offer features like:

  • Kid-friendly meals
  • Indoor and outdoor play areas
  • Spacious family rooms or suites
  • Child safety measures
  • On-site childcare
  • Swimming pools
  • Activities tailored to different age groups

These hotels are designed to make family holidays simpler, more fun, and genuinely relaxing—for both kids and parents.

Good to know: While some hotels like the Märchenhotel in Braunwald and Campofelice in Ticino are truly focused 100% on families, others in the group also welcome couples and adult travellers. Many even have large adults-only spa areas, and in some cases—like at Frutt Mountain Resort—there’s a separate building just for families, apart from the main lodge.

How to Choose the Right Swiss Family Hotel

You must have asked yourself several times where to stay in Switzerland with kids, and I get it. The choice of Swiss Hotels is huge and can get quite confusing.

Below you’ll find all the family hotels in Switzerland we’ve personally stayed in—along with what we loved most about each one. I’ve also included notes on the overall vibe of the resort and the types of activities available nearby, so you can easily pick what fits your family’s interests and travel style.

Activities & Interests

Looking for mountain biking trails or adrenaline-filled outdoor adventures? Then Campofelice in Ticino might not be the best fit. But if you’re into downhill biking or alpine sports, places like Arosa, Lenzerheide, or Pontresina are much better suited for your kind of holiday.

Seasons Matter

Visiting during the ski season? Make sure you choose a family hotel located in or near a Swiss ski resort. Not all Swiss Family Hotels offer direct ski access, so it’s worth checking before you book.

No Itinerary Yet? Let the Hotels Lead the Way

If you haven’t planned your Swiss route yet, you could easily build your itinerary around these family hotels. That way, you’re guaranteed a great stay at every stop—and you’ll naturally discover some of the most beautiful corners of Switzerland along the way.

Budget & Value

Yes, these Swiss family hotels sit on the higher end of the budget range. But they offer so much more than just a place to sleep. With things like included childcare, supervised activities, and dedicated family zones, the value is absolutely there. In our opinion, the extra cost is more than worth it—for both the memories and the downtime.

Tip: Make It a Gift

Turn a hotel stay into something extra special. Book it as a birthday surprise, a holiday present from Santa, or just because. Your kids will remember an amazing stay way longer than they’ll remember the latest toy.

Our Favourite Swiss Family Hotels

Now this is a tough one—because every single hotel we stayed in brought something special to the table. Each one has its own unique charm, and honestly, we loved them all for different reasons.

What they all have in common is their setting: every hotel is located in a resort or region that’s truly family-friendly, surrounded by nature, and filled with outdoor activities for all ages. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teens, or three generations together—there’s something for everyone. And this is why you simply can’t go wrong by choosing a stay in any of the Swiss family Hotels.

Below, I’ve listed the hotels in the order we visited them during our Swiss family road trip in 2025. This isn’t a ranking—just a chronological list, along with our personal highlights and what type of traveller or family each hotel might suit best.

I hope that this guide will help you find the right match for your next Swiss adventure.

The Märchenhotel in Braunwald, the Fairytale Family Hotel

This extraordinary Swiss family hotel is tucked away in the car-free mountain village of Braunwald, in a peaceful corner of the Swiss Alps in the canton of Glarus. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting the Märchenhotel twice already, and each stay has been pure joy. Our kids can’t wait to go back maybe one more time before they outgrow it.

Having said this, I could stay at the Märchenhotel every year without a problem. I’m already missing my morning coffee enjoying the splendid mountain view out of my room and of course the goats passing by.

Run by the same Swiss family for generations, the Märchenhotel (which means Fairytale Hotel) radiates warmth, care, and attention to detail. You can truly feel the love the Vogel family has for this place—and how they share it with every guest.

It’s a real-life fairytale hotel where nothing seems to be missing. If you do find something, let me know—because we honestly haven’t! This place is simply amazing.

Read all about our 1st stay at The Märchenhotel in Braunwald

Hotel Highlights

  • Indoor & outdoor pools (no time restrictions on the indoor pool)
  • Daily planned activities (including lama and alpaca walks )
  • Lots of friendly animals around the hotel grounds – the highlight for my daughter
  • Rooms like loft suite Häsli, and family Suite Geissli even have goats walking past your window!  If you like to splurge book the amazing Paradies-Suite «1001 Nacht», also with direct goat access.
  • A giant inflatable jumping castle drops from the ceiling each evening in the playroom—yes, really! A perfect way to end the day with one last adventure
  • We didn’t personally use the childcare facilities, but several families we met were extremely happy with the quality of care and attention.

Outdoor Fun in Braunwald

Braunwald is a beautiful, car-free village perfect for nature-loving families. In summer, there are themed hiking trails, a treetop adventure park, a family via ferrata, and hidden lakes to explore. Braunwald in winter transforms into a snowy fairytale, ideal for family skiing or just enjoying the snow on some of the many winter walks and snowshoe hikes.

Everyone that overnights in Braunwald gets the Glarnerland Pass, which means free public transport and the funicular up to Braunwald is free as well.

Best Suited For

In our opinion, The Märchenhotel in Braunwald is ideal for kids aged 4–10. There’s a full schedule of activities every day, some split by age group. If your toddler enjoys going to childcare, this is also a great chance for you to enjoy a peaceful dinner or quiet moment in the spa.

Read about our 6 Day Glarus Itinerary and other things to do in Braunwald, like the Theme Trail “Zwerg Bartly” or whether the Family Friendly via Ferrata is suitable for your family. The later two activities are accessible right from the hotel.

Frutt Mountain Resort & Lago Lodge – Melchsee-Frutt

This spot is truly a hidden gem—and one we’ll return to again and again. Why? Because Melchsee-Frutt, a car-free mountain village surrounded by stunning alpine scenery and quiet, uncrowded trails, is one of the most peaceful places we’ve stayed. The fact that the hotel sits right on the lake means you’ll wake up to views that stay with you forever.

We’ve had the pleasure of staying at this Swiss family hotel twice. The first time was in autumn—cold, misty, and rainy—but even then, the place didn’t lose its magic.

Read about our autumn stay at the Swiss family hotel Frutt Mountain Resort.

Hotel Setup

Frutt Mountain Resort is split into two sections:

One building is for adults and families with kids over 12 years old only.
The other, Lago Lodge, is part of the official Swiss Family Hotels collection—and that’s where the fun for kids truly begins.

Hotel Highlights

  • Bowling alley & games room  – our kids loved this! A perfect activity for a cozy evening indoors. With darts, table football, and a gaming station (great backup for rainy days)
  • A family wellness area where kids are welcome—rare and much appreciated!
  • Childcare and organised activities are also available, though we visited during a quieter time and didn’t use them this trip
  • We especially enjoyed doing the family sauna and steam bath circuit together as a family—such a fun and unusual experience for the kids!

Outdoor Fun in Melchsee-Frutt

In summer and early autumn, life here is all about being outside. You can hike, bike, fish, or just relax by the lake or on the lake with your paddleboard or rent a rowing boat. There’s even a themed family trail called the Fruttli-Weg, which winds around Melchsee and is perfect for curious little explorers.

Melchsee-Frutt in winter, the area becomes a quiet snowy wonderland—a perfect place for young skiers to practice their first turns on beautiful beginner slopes.

Good to know: Melchsee-Frutt easily connects with Engelberg Titlis.

Best Suited For

This is definitely one of the quieter family hotels in our trip. In our opinion, it’s ideal for families looking to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy nature. Whether your kids are 3 or 13, there’s something here for all ages—and the peaceful atmosphere makes it extra special.

Hotel Sunstar – Arosa – The Family Playground

If you know the Sunstar Hotels chain, you already know you’re in for a treat. What makes the Arosa location stand out is that it’s part of the official Swiss Family Hotels group—making it a fantastic choice for families looking for a stay that combines fun, comfort, and great mountain views.

We’ve visited Arosa several times, and it’s always a joy to drive the 360 winding curves up from Chur to reach this charming alpine village. Whether you’re visiting in summer or experience Arosa in winter, the village offers so much for outdoor-loving families with kids of all ages.

One of the best moments? Stepping out onto your balcony and seeing nothing but mountains, trees, and silence—except for the sound of the distant river. Pure joy.

Hotel Highlights

  • Indoor kids’ corner and bowling alley
  • Huge indoor adventure area co-created with the Arosa community—including a full Ninja Warrior course.
  • Indoor swimming pool, close to the wellness area with infrared chairs for parents needing a break
  • Evenings spent in the game and pool room—our kids loved the hotel guitar and we had several pool competitions with other families

Rainy days? Completely covered here!

Outdoor Adventures in Arosa

There’s so much to do in Arosa that it’s hard to list it all—but here are some of our family’s favourites:

  • Arosa Bärenland – a sanctuary for rescued circus bears from across Europe. These animals now live in a large open habitat surrounded by nature, after years spent in small concrete cages. Currently, four bears call it home.
  • Squirrel Trail – the famous forest path where adorable squirrels come right up and take nuts from your hand (bring a few in your pocket!)
  • Weisshorn summit – take the gondola to the top for incredible panoramic views
  • Hörnli Bike Park – free to access and designed for beginners and intermediate riders. A magic carpet lift takes the effort out of biking uphill, and our kids couldn’t get enough of it! Comfy chairs await the parents and there is also a snack stand right next door.
  • For confident riders, the Hörnli Trail offers a challenging downhill experience—though fair warning, some sections felt a little sketchy for us parents!

Good to know: When you stay two nights or more in Arosa you will get free lift tickets to all peaks.

With its linked ski domain with Lenzerheide, it’s a paradise for families who ski or snowboard.

Best Suited For

I feel, Hotel Sunstar Arosa is a great fit for families with older children or teens who are ready to explore, bike, hike and enjoy this vast resort. With so many things to do—both indoors and out—it’s impossible to get bored here.

Hotel Schweizerhof – Lenzerheide, Cosy & Modern

This was our first time both at Hotel Schweizerhof and in Lenzerheide, and both earned a solid 10/10 from us. This hotel isn’t just a fantastic Swiss family hotel, it also features one of the most beautiful adults-only spas we’ve ever seen. That makes it especially convenient if you’re traveling with older kids who can entertain themselves in the kids’ club or relax in one of the hotel’s many cozy corners—while you recharge your own batteries.

The hotel’s modern alpine décor feels warm and welcoming. One of our favorite spaces was the library—not for the books, but for the incredible collection of different family games, puzzles, and comfy chairs. After dinner, we loved spending time there as a family, unwinding with a quiet game or a shared laugh.

And the food? Absolutely amazing. Adults and kids alike were well taken care of, but the highlight for our children (and me) was the kids’ dessert buffet—think donuts, gummy bears, sour strings… a dream come true.

Hotel Highlights

  • Childcare, toddler play areas, and even a teen room
  • A small bike track in the hotel garden for little riders
  • Daily rabbit feeding at 10:00 AM
  • Large indoor pool where splashing is highly encouraged
  • Incredible adults-only spa for true relaxation

Outdoor Fun in Lenzerheide

Lenzerheide is well-known as the Bike Kingdom of Switzerland, and if your family loves flow trails and downhill biking, this is the place to be.

Right at the bottom of the Bike Kingdom gondola, there’s a free beginner’s bike park—perfect for young riders to build confidence before heading up the mountain for the real fun.

Not into biking? No problem. There are plenty of hiking trails, including a stroller-friendly path to Heidsee. Around the lake, you’ll also find an amazing natural swimming area and the Squirrel Trail—a magical walk through the forest where kids can spot (and sometimes feed) the squirrels! Not to be mistaken with the famous Arosa squirrel trail.

Winter in Lenzerheide

Lenzerheide shares its extensive ski domain with Arosa, making it a top pick for skiing and snowboarding families. The area offers enough variety and terrain to keep all levels busy for several days, from young learners to seasoned skiers.

Read what we did in Arosa during the winter months.

Best Suited For

Families with kids of all ages will feel welcome here, but it’s especially great if you’re traveling with older children or teens who enjoy biking, skiing, or spending time independently. Parents will love the mix of active days and relaxing evenings—plus that gorgeous spa!

Hotel Saratz – Pontresina, Where History has kept alive

Tucked away in the heart of the Engadin, just minutes from St. Moritz, is the beautiful Hotel Saratz in Pontresina—a true gem of a Swiss Family Hotel.

This was our first stay here, and honestly, it may have just become our new favourite. (We might need one more visit to be sure! Haha.)

Stylish, perfectly located, and surrounded by wild alpine nature, this hotel has everything you need for an unforgettable family getaway.

The hotel grounds are exceptional: there’s a 9-hole mini golf course, a 500-metre private flow trail, and open space that stretches all the way to the nearby river. From our family room, we had stunning views of the glacier—a moment that truly made us pause.

The building itself is a beautiful blend of historic charm and modern design. Originally opened in 1865 by Gian Saratz, the hotel has evolved into a unique space that mixes tradition and style effortlessly. I love it!

Hotel Highlights

  • Indoor and outdoor pool, complete with a small diving board
  • Mini golf course right in the garden
  • Flow trail for bikes, directly on the hotel grounds!
  • Large trampoline for kids (and kids at heart)
  • Beautifully decorated childcare and playroom with books, crafts, and games for all ages
Our daughter spent hours in the kids’ room—reading, drawing, and doing art activities. It felt cozy, calm, and creative and the staff were so lovely.

Organised activities are also available, but we didn’t use them this time as we were out exploring most of the day.

Outdoor Adventures in the Engadin

The Engadin Valley is absolutely packed with activities, and three days wasn’t nearly enough! Thankfully, we know the area well from past visits to St. Moritz, so this time we went straight for a new adventure: Up to Piz Nair with our bikes and riding the flow trail back down to St. Moritz. The scenery was breathtaking—and we spotted marmots all along the way!

With the Engadin Pass (included when you stay overnight in the area), you can ride  lifts and mountain railways for free, which makes it super easy to explore as many peaks and glacier viewpoints as possible. Bike tickets are not included in the Engadin Pass.

Other must-do’s:

  • A stroll through the centre of St. Moritz
  • Walks around the many Engadin lakes
  • Riding up to Diavolezza and marvel at the glaciers.

I’ll be linking a full guide on things to do in St. Moritz and the Engadin soon—stay tuned!

Best Suited For

Hotel Saratz in Pontresina is perfect for families of all ages. Whether you’re traveling with toddlers, teens, or grandparents, there’s something here for everyone. With the variety of activities in both the hotel and the surrounding area, the Engadin is one of the most flexible and scenic places in Switzerland for a family holiday.

Campofelice Camping Village – Tenero,Ticino

Calling all camping-loving families! Campofelice Camping Village has joined the Swiss Family Hotels collection — and for good reason.

Located right on the shores of Lago Maggiore in Switzerland’s sunniest canton, Ticino, this place is full of summer energy and Mediterranean flair. Think palm trees, lake breezes, and non-stop family fun. If you’re not a traditional camping fan, no worries — you don’t need a tent or sleeping bags here. We stayed in one of their prestige river bungalows, perfect for a family of four, with our own bathroom and plenty of space to retreat when it all got a bit too lively.

Campofelice offers the best of both worlds: that relaxed camping atmosphere with all the comfort and privacy of your own space. And with full access to the campsite’s facilities, playgrounds, and restaurant, we truly had the best of both worlds.

Why we loved it

  •  The location is unbeatable: right on Lake Maggiore with stunning views.
  • Great water obstacles at the front lake beach kept the kids happy for hours.
  • A shallow area with a sandy bottom on the side beach made it safe for younger children to cool off.
  • Swimming pool and small water playground was just perfect.
  • You’ll find paddle boards, pedal boats, and all sorts of lake fun right on site (some at extra cost).
  • Supervised daily activities — from circus shows to dance parties, T-shirt painting to football tournaments — making this place feel like summer camp.
  • A small onsite shop and restaurant mean you don’t even need to leave the village and you certainly don’t need to cook.

What to do around Campofelice

Ticino never disappoints. Whether it’s the narrow valleys or Verzasca, waterfalls along the Maggia, or the piazzas of Ascona and Lugano, there’s always something new to explore. We’ve been back countless times, and we still find new favourites every visit. Check out our Ticino Family Guide for more ideas on what to see and do nearby.

Best for: Families that want to mix relaxed camping vibes with plenty of lake adventures — and sunshine guaranteed.

On our family blog in the Ticino section  you’ll find plenty of ideas, itineraries and hidden gems to be discovered in Ticino.

3 More Swiss Family Hotels

Are you thinking why we said top 9 Swiss family hotels to stay in? And are you still wondering where to stay in Switzerland with kids? Well, we have effectively three more Swiss Family Hotels you could add to your holiday in Switzerland. Whereas one of them is a very unique Pop Up Hotel, see below.

Two of the hotels we haven’t YET, had the pleasure to stay in, but this doesn’t mean you should leave them out.

Next to the Schweizerhof-Lenzerheide you’ll find the Valbella Resort Lenzerheide and in Ticino there is also the Albergo Losone Hotel.

When we have stayed there we will update this post.

The Giraffen Lodge – POP Up Hotel

Let’s save the most unique Swiss Family Hotel for last. If Africa isn’t yet on your travel bucket list, you can still get a taste of it right here in Switzerland — by spending a night inside the zoo! Or more precise at the Giraffen Lodge – Kinderzoo Knie in Rapperswil (Pop-Up Hotel)

We had the chance to stay at the Giraffen Lodge in Knie’s Kinderzoo in Rapperswil, as one of the very first families to experience this new pop-up concept by Swiss Family Hotels — and it was truly unforgettable.

This tiny house is perfect for a family of four. It includes a small kitchenette, bathroom, and even a stove for colder nights (though we didn’t need it, and can’t confirm it works!). The space is cosy and well-equipped for a unique overnight stay.

But the real magic happens in the early morning. While the zoo is still closed to the public, the animals are already active — including the giraffes. We were given a bucket with their breakfast inside and had the incredible experience of feeding these gentle giants ourselves. Their soft muzzles, calm presence, and stunning eyes — it was simply breathtaking.

Your stay includes two full days of zoo entry, and in the morning, a staff member delivers a generously filled breakfast basket right to your door.

This is hands down one of the most memorable places we’ve ever stayed in Switzerland.

How to Book the Giraffen Lodge

Here’s the catch: it’s very popular. Booking slots are limited and sell out within minutes.

To improve your chances:

Follow Swiss Family Hotels on Instagram to stay up to date on booking announcements and cancellations.
Be ready at the exact time when booking opens — speed is everything!

What’s Included at the Giraffen Lodge

Like with all Swiss Family Hotels, everything has been thoughtfully arranged for a seamless stay:

  • Overnight stay for a family of four inside Knie’s Kinderzoo
  • Bathroom with shower & toilet
  • Kitchenette with coffee and tea facilities
  • Large outdoor seating area
  • Snacks, fruit & drinks in the fridge
  • Breakfast basket delivered to your door
  • 2-day entry to Kinderzoo for the whole family
  • Giraffe food bucket & fresh branches to feed them
  • Exclusive private morning tour & feeding experience
  • Free parking directly at the zoo

Good to Know
Because heading out for dinner would take away from the experience, we recommend ordering in or bringing your own food. We used Eat.ch delivery and it worked perfectly.

Final Thoughts

Switzerland might be small, but when it comes to family-friendly stays, it goes big — in creativity, comfort, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re waking up next to giraffes, biking through alpine trails, splashing in natural pools, or simply enjoying a hotel that truly understands kids and grown-ups, these Swiss Family Hotels prove that the journey is just as special as the destination.

Each stay we’ve shared offers something different — but they all have one thing in common: they’ve been thoughtfully designed to bring families closer, create lasting memories, and take the stress out of travel.

So if you’re planning your next family escape in Switzerland, let these places inspire you to stay somewhere that’s more than just a bed for the night — stay somewhere that becomes part of the adventure.
